The Significance of the orientation on the overall buildings thermal performance-case study in Australia. This research investigates the effect of the Qibla direction on the environmental performance of Mosques and sets different solutions to mitigate this problem through the analytical literature review for vernacular Mosques. Also, they used to adapt different forms that allow them to compromise between the two required orientations. Traditional builders and particularly in the Islamic era adopted numerous design passive strategies and techniques, such as the Courtyard, the Mashrabia, Lantern “Shukhshikha”, Wind Catcher …etc. The problem that lies at the core of this research is that the Mosques should be oriented in the “Qibla” direction regardless of the climatic studies. These are the view, the prevailing wind direction, and the sun position. The best orientation could be determined based on three important aspects. The orientation of buildings plays an important role in controlling energy consumption. Mosque buildings are no exception since the mosque could be used for most of the day for the entire year. Investigating building performance in terms of thermal, visual, and acoustic comfort for occupants is very important to judge the quality of the design for any building.
